This Monday saw me visit Chipping Campden School as part of their food and farming event. I along with other farmers and food producers spoke to the year 7’s about local sustainable farming and about careers in agriculture.
I took our observation hive along which was a massive hit with almost all pupils but some were a tad nervous of getting close but after some gentle encouragement I think everyone got up close and spotted the queen with her red dot. I got asked a broad range of questions and talked about the vital role bees and beekeepers play in farming especially with the decline in solitary bees making managed hives an important cog in sustainable farming.
All the pupils were a credit to the school and they finished with a locally sourced bbq lunch courtesy of Lower Clopton Farm and Gorse Hill Abbey Farm ice cream for pudding. All in all a great event to have been involved with.
